To be built as a country retreat this 1,100 s.f. cabin is located at Ebey's Landing on Whidbey Island. Set on a 10 acre pasture the design maximizes forest, hillside and water views. The program required that the space be open, flexible and easy to utilize and maintain. The interior is a tall single volume with a mezzanine running along the edge of the main space. The living, dining, kitchen and guest quarters are on the main floor. The upper level contains the master suite. Movable partitions create privacy for additional sleeping areas. Floor to ceiling windows allow access to exterior decks which extend the floor plan out into the fields and provides a habitable exterior space. The building is set on posts which raise the structure five feet above the ground to create the sensation of floating on the grass.
