The Banner Loft project combines two separate units into one 3,700 s.f. loft home in the Banner Building. The client, who already lived in one of the two units uses the expansion to exhibit her art collection and to entertain. For this she required a modern, flexible open space. To achieve this the programmatic elements are condensed into a single volume located in one quadrant of the space at both levels. Here the rooms are enclosed by translucent walls and sliding panels to allow contiguous spaces to open and close into various combinations. The double height living area in front of the window wall accommodates the "hanging lounge" an elliptical floating platform which serves as an intimate interior balcony from which to enjoy the views of Puget Sound.
